Weta 3/4 Bust : Gollum

Here is the 3/4 Scale Gollum Bust by Weta Collectibles. I received it yesterday straigt from an another collector from States. The photos i took are abit flashy, because I don't have much light in my room. This piece is quite big compared to the other busts that Weta had produced. It is almost a Lifesize Bust. I'm sure it will look good when displayed with other Legendary Scales. The only thing that's bothering me with this piece is the paint job. The skin colour of Gollum is very whitish. Don't get confused by the flashy photos I took. That's how it looks even when you look at it in daylight.

This piece is limited to 1500 pieces and it stands approximately 12" ( 30cm. ). Current status of this bust is "Sold Out" but you can always find one on ebay. The price range is around 150-200$. There is one last thing I would like to add; although this is a large bust, Weta Collectibles managed to fit it in the smallest box possible. This way it saves you some extra money when shipped. It costs around 50$ to ship it anywhere in Europe. (inc. Turkey ;) )

Weta Statue : Fell Beast and Morgul Lord

Witch King, Sauron's most dreadful servant, and the leader of the Nazgul. He was once a man and a king, but he was doomed by the ring given to him by Sauron. The witchking appeared in many scenes in the movie. We see him in the Weathertop scene with the other four Nazgul trying to capture Frodo. In that scene we see the detailed face of WithcKing. In this statue we see the Witch King in armor on Fellbeast.

Let's talk about the Fellbeast a little bit. ''The Fellbeasts are Winged steeds of the Nazgul. The Fell Beasts were huge, larger than any bird, and their wingspans were great. Their wings were made of hide stretched between bones like horned fingers and they had no feathers. They had beaks and long necks. The Fell Beasts smelled foul and they shrieked. ''

This statue was in my mind for a long time. Luckily a friend of mine decided to sell it to me. This was a chance, not to be missed. The reason is this is an 3000 limited statue and it is really hard to find. It's one of Weta's pride. The Sculptors who worked on this statue are Brigitte Wuest and Jamie Baswarick. Now on the title it says that this is an Artist Proof Ediiton and it's true. I was looking for an any numbered edition of this statue, now ı have an artisit proof one. What else can ı ask for ? :) Brigitte Wuest recently, sculpted the Female Templar ( limited to 1,000 pieces ), from Weta's new line of statues, Hellgate London.

The Fell Beast and Morgul Lord is captured in this amazingly detailed statue. It is hand cast in heavy weight polystone and hand painted to the highest standards. The display base is designed with the map of middle earth as usual. The pose of the sculpture is very good, although the details on Morgul Lord are not very high. The reason to that is probably it is too small. The dimensions of this statue are too small compared to other Lotr statues. I wish they had made it much bigger. Now that Sideshow announced and introduced their new statue Eagles vs Nazgul at San Diego Comic Con, it's for sure that we are going to see something really big.

Ringwraith Animaquette finally arrived to retailers a week ago. Today I couldn't stop myself from buying one. It is an amazing piece with nearly 12'' height and a masterpiece sculpture. The item is one piece except the sword of the Ringwraith. This time Gentle Giant decided to make the sword from metal. I wish they continue to use strong materials with the sensitive parts of maquettes. The box of the statue is huge compared to previous animated maquette we had seen before. It's almost the same size of a C-3PO Statue or a Royal Guard Statue. I'm guessing the shiiping for this item would be minimum $ 50. This piece is limited to 1500, mine is 0593. I strongly recommend The Ringwraith Animaquette to all Lord of the Rings fans.

I would put this piece into top 5 of WETA's LOTR line. The size of this old fellow is same as the Legendary Scale Gandalf. It's hard to call it a bust, since it's twice size of an ordinary WETA bust. Stands approximetly 15 inch ( 40 cm. ) It came in it's original box which is also huge. The detail on the face is amazing, especially the eyes. Looks so real. This one is limited to 1500, mine is 859.

Another Lotr Bust from Gentle Giant, Saruman the White Wizard of Isengard. I must say that this is the best mini bust of all time. This makes me wanna say that those guys at Gentle Giant do some real good job when they want to do. The new feature called 'light up' has become more fashionable these days. But this one was a must have. I mean what is Saruman without his palantir. The sculpture and painting on this bust is excelent. i couldn't find any mistakes. Infact it's almost as good as it's prototype. This bust is manufactured to a limited edition of 3500. It may be a big number for a new series of collectibles, but hey ! don't forget that boba fett bust#1 was limited to 7500 and it's price went up to $300 on 2nd hand market. I'm telling you that this one is going to be very valuable in the future, maybe not 300 but definitly around 150-200. So don't miss your chance and get yours before it's sold out. The size of the bust is 7.25 inches and the batteries are included within. The details on the face are amazing. The sculptor and the painter did a real good job.

The other day I was at Forbidden Planet, London, and I had a chance to take a closer look at Frodo and Sam in orc armour bust. Sam looks allright but i can't say the same thing for Frodo. If you are not willing the complete the whole line, don't buy Frodo. I'm sure Gentle Giant will do many variants of him, such as exclusives and club member editon and light up version and so on...

Saruman the White was the Chief of the Order of Wizards. He was wise and powerful, but he was also proud and he became corrupted by desire for the One Ring and was ensnared by the will of Sauron. He created armies and machinery and sought to expand his power, but in the end Saruman's works were undone by a power greater than any he could devise and he was slain by one of his own slaves.

Saruman was originally a Maia known as Curumo. The Maiar were spirits who helped and served the Valar in the Undying Lands. Curumo was one of the Maiar of Aule, the Vala whose domain was the substances of which the earth was made. Aule was a smith and a master of crafts and works of skill, and from him Curumo gained much knowledge. Sauron had also once been a Maia of Aule. He had turned to evil and sought to establish dominion over Middle-earth and the Valar decided to send emissaries oppose him. Curumo was chosen by Aule and he became one of the Istari, or Wizards. Gentle Giant Mini Bust : Elrond

Elrond was one of the wisest and most powerful Elves in Middle-earth during the Second and Third Ages. He fought to oppose Sauron, and it was at a Council held by Elrond that the decision was made to destroy the One Ring and bring about the Dark Lord's downfall. Elrond the Half-elven had chosen to live the immortal life of the Elves and he left Middle-earth at the end of the Third Age, but he left behind his beloved daughter Arwen, who had made her own choice.

A new line from Gentle Giant Lord of the Rings 6'' Busts. It started with Ringwraith, Aragorn, Gandalf, Balrog and now Elrond. I must say that Ringwraith, Gandalf and Balrog look amazing. Aragorn as Strider is also good. But i can hardly say the same thing for Elrond. When i first saw the photos at Comic Con. I said it didn't look very good. Then i thought they Gentle Giant would do something about it. But things didn't go that way. Here we are, with Elrond Bust not so succesful with the likeness on the face. Elrond looks very young and different. I will put some stills from the movie to make a better comparisson.

Also let's take a look at Weta's Elrond bust(which I think better than Gentle's) and get a better clue.

Apart from the face, Gentle Giant makes really nice bases for these busts. In this one they used the scenery of Rivendell. Another important thing about this line is that in some of the busts you have a chance to find the 'one ring'. Only 100 are hidden in every character. I bought all the busts so far but wasn't lucky enough to find the one ring made by Noble Collections.

The next two bust that just released are Frodo and Sam in orc armour. It's out in America and will be here in one weeks time. I have purchased this item from Star Wars Attic on ebay with Balrog Bust shipped together. The two busts arrived in 5 days with USPS Express Mail and cost $59 of shipping rate. I didn't pay any taxes or fines of these two busts except i had to go to National Post Office to take them because the box was very huge.

So far I'm going one Lotr one Sw piece in a row. Let's not kill the tradition and promise that my next article will be very special Star Wars product. A little hint: it's lifesize :)

Weta Statue : Legolas and Gimli on Arod

Legolas Greenleaf, son of the Elvenking of Mirkwood, was selected to represent the Elves in the Fellowship of the Ring. His endurance, keen sight, and fighting skills were of great help on the quest, but his loyalty and friendship were even greater assets to his companions. Legolas grew fond of the Hobbits and he loved and supported Aragorn, but the strongest bond he formed was his unlikely friendship with Gimli the Dwarf. Gimli was a stout-hearted and loyal Dwarf. His father Gloin had been one of Bilbo Baggins' companions on the quest to the Lonely Mountain, and Gimli was a member of the Fellowship that accompanied Frodo Baggins on the quest to destroy the One Ring. Gimli overcame his suspicion of Elves as he grew to admire Galadriel and formed a lasting friendship with Legolas, earning him the name Elf-friend. Gimli was born in 2879. His father Gloin was of the line of Durin; his mother's name is not known. In his youth, Gimli lived in the Blue Mountains west of Eriador. After the Dwarves reclaimed the Lonely Mountain in 2941, Gloin relocated his family there and became prosperous. ( source: tuckborough.net )

Arod: Horse of Legolas. Arod originally belonged to a Rider of Rohan, but his master was slain in a battle with Orcs near Fangorn Forest on the night of February 28, 3019. The next day, Eomer lent Arod to Legolas and another horse named Hasufel to Aragorn on the condition that they later bring the horses to Meduseld. Arod was a fiery and restive horse, but Legolas rode him easily without saddle or rein. Gimli was not so comfortable on Arod, and he clung to his friend uneasily. The Three Hunters rode the edge of Fangorn Forest seeking Merry Brandybuck and Pippin Took. During the night, a strange old man appeared at their campsite and then disappeared. Arod and Hasufel dragged their pickets and ran away. They heard Shadowfax, the lord of horses, and ran to greet him. The next day when Gandalf whistled to call Shadowfax, Arod and Hasufel returned as well. Legolas rode Arod to Meduseld and on to Helm's Deep. When Aragorn decided to take the Paths of the Dead, Legolas went with him, but Arod was reluctant to enter the Dark Door. Arod trembled in fear until Legolas laid his hands on the horse's eyes and sang to him. Arod then followed Legolas through the tunnels as the Dead gathered behind them. ( source: tuckborough.net )

This line of statues with horses look amazing. I can't think of an another company who can sculpt horses this good. Weta's artist really know what they are doing. The statue is sculpted by Eden Small of Weta Workshop. His previous works are amazing too. Now let's get back to Legolas and Gimli on Harod Statue. It's really amazing to see two main characters sculpt as one piece. Now after the first Legolas statue,we can easily say that the likeness of on Legolas's face is very high. We can make the same comment on Gimli. The paint job is amazing. Especially those splashed muds on figures clothes and body,add more realism to the work of art. The base is again designed with the map of Middle-Earth but this time there are yellow grasses underneath the statue, just like in the movie. As a result this statue is a must buy one, if you are Lord of the Rings Fan.

The price range for this statue is between $ 250 -$ 350. The box is huge. Therefore don't expect it to arrive to your if you are living in Turkey. Still in my opinion it worths to own a statue like this one.
